Explore southern country life
Arrive at the Home Stay in Bentota on time for lunch where the host is ready to serve you a delicious home cooked traditional lunch. After a brief rest, set off to experience a traditional dugout catamaran ride on the serene lake where one can experience birdlife and the beautiful countryside too, remember to try your skills in paddling the boat with the help of the local boatman. Back at the home stay, enjoy dinner with the local family followed by a chit- chat about the day’s experiences before retiring for the night.
The dawn of the next day promises an interesting day-out in the wilds. Set off early morning in a local bus towards the border of Sinharaja rain forest to experience the authentic village life by visiting local boutiques, rural village homes and even calling on a hidden Buddhist monastery situated in the border of Sinharaja rain forest. You will experience the legendary ecofriendly life style of a pleasantly remote village, unspoiled by concrete buildings and busy lifestyles, thus helping in protecting the wonders of nature while giving life its true meaning. Trek through a rocky path to reach a Buddhist monastery where the monks are in deep meditation aspiring to attain Nibbana. Witness the process of making Kitul Juggery using the sap collected from the Kitul Tree. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a cool dip in a fresh water pond. Tuck into a home cooked lunch prepared by a village family before heading back to the homestay; relish a sundowner on a rock cliff while enjoying a 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside.
Back at the home stay freshen up before participating in making Pan Hoppers for dinner. Hopper making is a uniquely Sri Lankan experience and a delicious culinary journey. Call it a day; it’s time to say ‘good night’.
Next morning, enjoy a Sri Lankan delicacy, String Hoppers and curry before saying good-bye to the hosts.
