Pusellawa mountain hike with a local
Pussellawa is a small town situated in the Kandy district between Gampola and Nuwara Eliya. Its mountain terrain and misty cool climate has made it one of the finest places for the cultivation of tea and where some of the country’s renowned tea plantations are situated.
You will be transported by tuk-tuk up to the point of Frotoft, an abandoned tea factory after which the hike begins. Let’s ramble through scenic misty mountain landscapes, lush carpets of tea cultivation, cascading streams and thick jungle with plenty of endemic fauna and flora to the trailhead that leads to the mountain where Ravana’s Chariot Path is found. According to the Hindu Epic Ramayana, this was the path of King Ravana’s chariot when he escorted Sita to show her the breathtaking beauty of his Kingdom.
After hiking through vast plains of grasslands and pygmy forest you will reach the peak. Here enjoy lunch while listening to more stories about Rama, Ravana and Sita. On this 4-5 hour hike a knowledgeable and experienced guide will accompany you and you will be served with refreshments and lunch.
